Halloween has come and gone once again.  I was able to tour a dank old cemetery and rock out at karaoke with a crazy group of friends, and what more can a girl ask for.

The Untimely Departures Tour was well worth the wait this year.  The Friends of Lone Fir Cemetery went all out and still managed to keep things tasteful as to respect the dead and tell their story.  Of course having just been turned on to Six Feet Under, my perception may be a bit skewed.

One of my favorite things about this holiday is seeing the groups of people that end up hanging out together.  For example:

This year our group consisted of a rabbit, the liberal press, the guy without a costume, a Christmas tree, a victorious bridesmaid, a soldier, and a gangster; ages ranging from 6 to mid-30’s.  I saw Snow White dining with a zombie, and a cow kickin’ it in the streets of Portland with a group of inmates and Ralph Nader.  On what other day could we catch a glimpse of such equality. ; )

Monica easily won me over today.  She usually does.

Immediately after I answered the phone she launched into a speech about how Sam Brown and rstevens (the creative geniuses of exploding dog and diesel sweeties) had decided to hold a Red Robot Pumpkin Carving Contest for Halloween this year.

“I’m off this weekend, so I can swing by anytime and we can let the nerdiness ensue.”

And oh did the nerdiness ensue.  We started at the grocery store to secure some dark ale and two huge round pumpkins.  Then after about an hour or so of searching the webcomics for just the right Red Robot to hack into our orange vegetables, we each grabbed a giant bowl and a giant knife and slashed away like mad.  Red Robot would be proud.

Monica finished her Sam Brown rendition of the forlorn robot first:

And not too long after I finished creating the pixelated angry rstevens version:

We then commenced with the pumpkin seed baking and took crazy fun pictures of the lit up robots to submit to Sam the next day.  All in all it was a pretty awesome night of apropo Red Robot gore.

Cheers to webcomic nerds everywhere!
